John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition
Face the Global Challenge
The John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition (formerly ELSA Moot Court Competition) is a simulated court hearing in world trade law organized by ELSA International in cooperation with the World Trade Organization (WTO). In two rounds, the participants discuss a fictitious case around the GATT, GATS and TRIPS, the most important international treaties of world trade law. In this process, they represent, in one round as plaintiffs, in the next as defendants, the states seeking a resolution of their disputes before the Dispute Settlement Body of the WTO.
The prestigious competition is held in English and in teams of 2 to 4 people. The prize is an internship at the WTO in Geneva. After submitting their briefs, each of the participating teams will have a unique opportunity to plead before WTO experts in one of the five Regional Rounds taking place around the world on several continents! The top 20 teams will qualify for the finals, which will be held at WTO Headquarters in Geneva in the summer of 2019.
In addition to first-class rhetorical skills and the writing of briefs, the participants also learn to expand their intercultural competence and have the unique opportunity to get to know international experts in world trade law.
